Had a good hunt this week, filled 6 deer tags, would have been 4 more but 2 guys were a no show, their loss . Me and Larry filled our mule deer doe tags monday.I shot mine at 11:00 a.m. 75 yard shot up a steep slope. With all the snow on the ground she slid almost right to the bottom, gotta like that.Larry filled his tag at about 3:00 p.m.50 yard shot on a cutblock and an easy drag to the truck. Larry's doe My doe.She was going almost straight away from me and I hurried an off hand shot that took out one lung but it dropped her. Tuesday morning we hunted right out of camp.I only saw 4 white tail does and had a coyote walk right by me at 3 yards.Got a good pic. Should have seen him leave the country when he heard the shutter of the camera ;D. Larry shot a decent white tail buck at 32 yards.Caught him standing up in its bed, never knew what hit him. Larry's buck. We took the afternoon off and went into Pincher Creek to pick a few things up.Larry decided to stay in camp and me and Ron went out for the evening hunt and ran into this guy. A very big grizzly bear, one of three we saw. [/img]

Ron had a close encounter with this bear. When he saw him the bear was going away feeding up slope, all of a sudden the bear lifted its head scenting the air, turned and ran back the way it came.Don't let any one tell a bear can't run downhill, that bear galloped like a horse and covered a 100 yards in a blink of an eye.It crawled under a barbed wire fence. For a size reference the hump on the grizzlies back was over the height of the fence post, that's 4 feet .The bear continued in Ron's direction, crossed a creek and was 60 yards from Ron when Ron decided he wanted to be some where else.Said he climbed to the top of a ridge on one breath. These ridges are covered in stunted aspens that don't grow much higher than 4 or 5 feet and you are hard pressed to find a way thru this stuff,we call it shin tangle. On the way thru he snagged his rifle sling on something and was shocked when he got hit in the ass hard by something.Seems he tore the front stud right out of the synthetic stock, the sling stretched until it let go and came back at him with the Harris bipod still attached and hit him, said it gave him a hell of a boost to the top of the ridge. When he gained the top he looked back and the griz was still at the bottom. Now he had cattle coming right behind him bawling and trying to get away from the bear.Ron and the cattle parted company on a pipeline right of way and he beat a hasty retreat back to camp.Said he passed on a nice white tail buck, figured he couldn't convince me and Larry to come in the dark to help get it out..We kept expecting to see this bear in camp with 3 deer hanging, thankfully he didn't come in but a wolverine did. Wednesday evening me and Ron shot 2 small white tail bucks. When we first saw them there was only 1 standing,Ron shot it in the neck at 22 yards.I couldn't see it go down when another buck stood up,I thought it was the same buck and told Ron to shoot it again,he said no,as his was down so I shot it,it made it over the top of the ridge and went down just out of my sight.Ron started gutting his and I went to find mine,it didn't go 20 yards from where I shot it.We got em to the truck right at dark and headed back to camp for a few whiskeys and beer and a hot meal. My buck. Ron's buck on the left,me on the right. Cow and calf moose. Herd of mule deer, there's a small buck in the herd. This is some of the country we hunted in.
