Is it just me or is NASCAR getting ate up with too many rules, most of which are unescesary?
It seems to me most of these new rules were already covered by some that left some lee-way for the officials.
For example that junk with Newman and the cone. That is just stupid to me. Before at the commit line you had to be commited to the pits. This was to deffine the pit area and eleminate the old facke pit deal. Newman would have been fine undwer this. He intended to pit, hit was commited to the pits, sure he got a bit sideways but he didn't hit anything except some stupid cone.
The out of bounds rule is another one for me. I think NASCAR had an excessive blocking rule. Most racing bodies have them. Skinner would have deffinitly violated this. Now we got some stupid yellow stripe that a driver may be forced below and may be penalized for this if he dosen't drop the gas and probably loose several spots. Stay on the gas and potentially pass somebody and it is a no-no. Yes I know NASCAR can declare that they were forced below and all that but I think they have majorly blew some of those calls.
I have been watching NASCAR since the '70s and I do aplaude some of the new rules for saftey such as the HANS and the helmits for over the wall, but it seems there are just to many silly rules. I want to see racing not who drives around with out incuring the wrath of the officials.
PS the new point system sucks and I belive that will be apparent latter when this comes in effect.
