if i'm not mistaken today is 3 years since we lost dale earnhardt.....and nascar hasn't been the same since.
i'm all happy that jr's doing well but not seein' that #3 leaves a hole in my heart.....i hated nascar until i met my husband's nephew...he was just a youngin' and the only dale fan....the family always picked on him so i joined his team and became addicted but never liked anyone else...not even jr. at that point.
when dale died the local radio stations played numerous songs dedicated to him....one station had played the dance by garth that had a poem to dale in it...it'll even bring a tear to grown men.....anyways before each and every hunt i'll play it and then dedicate the hunt to him...it makes me feel better.
one short story then i'll stop babbling.... it was the turkey season right after he died...hm and i had planned on dedicating the season to dale since he wouldn't be here to hunt. i think it was the last hunt i had and i hadn't gotten a bird yet....very bummed...as i was sittin' in my blind i was thankin' God for allowing me to be out there and how i wish i would have been able to get a bird in honor of dale but i understood it wasn't his will....well next thing you know there's a group of birds in front of me....they came out of no where so i was able to get one at the last minute....it was soooooo awesome....now i have a 8in. beard known as " dale's bird".
no more babbling.

I thought that Daytona might still do the third lap tribute that everyone did the rest of the 01 season. I think it would be fitting for them to do it for as long as anyone will - and the fans may have but NBC didn't show it.
I also thought that NBC could've shut up for one lap in his honor. But they were probably trying to get to a commercial.

Good story Fl. thanks for sharin that with us. To be honest, I was not a Big E fan. at times he made me so mad I could have given him a knuckle sandwich. but, I respected the man as a driver, and I've heard a lot of good stories about him since his death. He was a kindhearted, and caring man. and I do miss that black #3 on the track. your right, It'll never be the same.

I was not a big fan either. I thought NASCAR allowed him more leway than the other drivers. He wasn't called the Intimidator for nothing. That being said, I saw him mellowing quite a bit in his last few years. Watching him on hunting videos showed a different side of him that I liked. His actions in his last race were respectable. He held the field back while Jr. & Waltrip fought for the win.
