Anybody got any plans, ideas or pics of a good firepit? I built a small one in the back yard that serves the purpose and seems to have won the "firepit competition" that me, my dad and brother in law had going on. I'm just looking for some good ideas to build a bigger and better one

Ok..
I got a buddy that has a set up he built out of cinder block.
Here's kinda what he did:
Laid an 8 inch slab that was 4x6. He mortared cinder block about 3 feet high with a chimney on one end. While he was mortaring, he mortared thick 1 inch rebar in about a foot off the bottom and the length of the pit. He mortared another row about another foot from the top. Each rebar was about 8 to 10 inches spaced. He had thick diamond shaped grate cut for both levels that were in 4 pieces. 2 for the top and 2 for the fire grate underneath. He cut a lid out of 1/2 inch steel to cover the top and hinged it half way...bout 3 feet, minus the chimney. Chimney stuck up bout 5 feet. He drilled a hole in the center of the lid for a themometer. Then he welded 2 handles on each side of the hinged top. At the opposite end of the chimney, he left a space that was about a foot wide and the entire height of the pit. He bolted in 2-1/2 inch steel peices that ran the height on each side to act as a frame for a door that he had vented to act as a cleaning out door as well as an air vent.
He would build his fire at the end where the door was and put the meats and the other end that was hinged closer to the chimney. He would put all the panned sides on top of the steel lid directly above the fire to cook them.
That's the way I want to build mine when the time comes......hope this helps.
Good luck!!!
